Stormwater Project Public Notice

Dear Residents,

The Town of Ahoskie has begun planning and environmental studies for the Town’s Stormwater Action Plan, identified as a priority resiliency project by the public and the Town during the NC Division of Coastal Management – Resilient Coastal Communities Program. This plan will assess and map the Town’s stormwater infrastructure, identify stormwater management improvement opportunities, and help to reduce flooding.

As part of this project, engineers, surveyors, biologists, and others representing the Town will be working on or near your property for the next several months collecting data needed for the development of this plan. The specific areas in which these representatives will be working does not necessarily indicate the final location or extent of any proposed ditch or pipe maintenance.

These representatives will be wearing highly reflective safety vests and will be locating and measuring the limits of streams, ditches, and wetlands. These representatives may use wooden stakes, various colors of flagging, or ribbons, hung on trees and shrubs as part of their work. These stakes and flagging do not indicate the location of a proposed construction project, but they are very important in our planning and environmental project development process. Please do not disturb these stakes and flagging if present.

As the development of the plan progresses, the Town will keep stakeholders informed by providing pertinent updates as needed. Postcards may be mailed and/or advertised small group meetings may be held to present important information or announce project milestones.

If you have any questions please contact the project manager, Doug Keller, PE at (919)878-9560 or dkeller@rkk.com. You may also contact me using the information below. Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work to improve stormwater flooding and drainage issues in Ahoskie.

Sincerely,

Stephen Lassiter
