Description

The Town of Ahoskie is seeking proposals from qualified and experienced artists or artist teams to design, create, and install an original wall mural on the Town Youth Center building. This public art initiative is part of the Town’s ongoing efforts to enhance community pride, celebrate local identity, and visually enrich public spaces.

 

Background

The Town of Ahoskie is committed to fostering creativity and community engagement through public art. This mural project will serve as a lasting symbol of the Town’s culture, history, and future vision. The mural location will be a prominent location within a municipal boundaries accessible to the public, and the final design should reflect themes of community, diversity, history, resilience, and/or revitalization.

 

Scope of Services

  • The selected artist will be responsible for the following:
  • Conduct a site visit to assess the mural space and engage in a brief community input session.
  • Develop and submit at least three preliminary design concepts for review and feedback.
  • Refine the final design based on input from Town Mayor and Town Council and/or a designated selection committee.
  • Prepare the wall surface (if needed), install the mural using high-quality, weather-resistant materials, and apply appropriate protective coatings.
  • Complete the mural within the agreed timeline and budget.
  • Provide a maintenance guide and documentation of materials used.

  

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in creating public murals of similar scale and scope.
  • Proven ability to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Strong creative vision that aligns with community-centered values.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with municipal staff and community stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of durable mural techniques and appropriate surface preparation.

General Terms and Conditions

  • The Town reserves the right to reject any or all proposals.
  • The Town is not responsible for any costs incurred in the preparation or submission of proposals.
  • The project must comply with all safety regulations and public accessibility standards.
  • Artists must carry liability insurance and, if applicable, provide proof of workers’ compensation coverage.
  • Artist releases copyright and agrees to grant the Town an exclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce images of the mural for promotional purposes.

Proposal Requirements

Proposals must include the following information:

  • A) Letter of Interest

Artist name or team name, contact information, and website or portfolio link.

Brief narrative outlines interest in the project and approach to public art.

  • B) Qualifications & Experience

Artist biography or team background.

Portfolio of at least three completed mural projects, including images, location, client/contact, and project year.

At least two professional references who are familiar with your mural work.

  • C) Conceptual Approach

Initial thoughts or themes for the proposed mural (not required to be a final design).

Community engagement or storytelling strategies (if applicable).

  • D) Timeline & Availability

Estimated project schedule, including start and completion dates.

Availability for site visits and installation.

  • E) Budget

Detailed project budget, including design, materials, labor, travel, insurance, and other costs.

Not-to-exceed total project cost.
